The Solitary Princess of Seirei Academy

Алиса Михайловна Кудзё
孤高のお姫様 · Solitary PrincessAlisa "Alya" Mikhailovna Kujou is widely considered one of the two greatest beauties of Seirei Private Academy. Born to a Russian father and Japanese mother, she carries both worlds within her — yet belongs fully to neither. Her silver hair and sapphire eyes make her ethereal. Her silence makes her untouchable.
In Japanese, she is cold, precise, and distant. But in Russian — she is someone else entirely. Her barriers dissolve. Her love spills out, unguarded. She whispers things to Masachika in her mother tongue, fully believing he cannot understand a word. She is wrong.
Her cold attitude stems from a group project during her time in Vladivostok — where her classmates resented how seriously she worked, leading to conflict and failure. She decided then: trust no one, rely on no one. That changed when Masachika helped her at the school festival.

A romance built on a beautiful misunderstanding — she thinks he doesn't understand Russian. He does. Every word. And yet he says nothing, and pretends not to hear the confession she never dared give in Japanese.
To the world, Masachika is a lazy, unmotivated otaku who sleeps in class and forgets his textbooks. But he hides an extraordinary truth — he is secretly intelligent, emotionally perceptive, and secretly understands Russian at a native level. He is also the first person outside her family to call her simply "Alya."
He learned Russian to speak with his childhood friend — who turned out to be Alya's elder sister, Maria. Years later, fate seated him next to the girl who unknowingly confesses her love in the very language he understands perfectly.
Alya pours out her true feelings in Russian — flirting, confessing, expressing jealousy — believing her words are safe. Masachika hears every word, yet plays dumb, unsure if she truly likes him or is just teasing. He deems himself unworthy of her.
She unknowingly said "Я тебя люблю" (I love you) in Episode 4 after he promised to help her become president. Masachika heard it clearly — but his mind drifted to memories of his childhood friend Maria, not realizing Alya was speaking from her heart.
As of the latest light novel volumes, neither has explicitly confessed in the same language. Their romance is carried entirely in the space between what she says in Russian and what he pretends not to understand.
She speaks Russian when Japanese is not enough. These are the words she believes no one can hear — but someone always does.

12 episodes aired July 3 – September 18, 2024 on Tokyo MX. Streaming on Crunchyroll. Opening: 1番輝く星 · Ending: Various J-Pop covers (Alya's voice).
Introduction to Seirei Academy's ice princess. Alya turns down a senior's confession effortlessly. Masachika, seated next to her, pretends not to understand her Russian comments. The premise is established — and we learn his secret.
Alya is sent alone to mediate a conflict between baseball and soccer teams. Cornered and overwhelmed, she calls out for help in Russian. Masachika — who was nearby — responds immediately. He then promises to support her dream of becoming president.
Alya realizes she wasn't invited to Masachika's birthday — and in Russian culture, that means he doesn't consider her a friend. Masachika understands her disappointment (because he understands Russian) and invites her for a date to make up for it. Ends with a kiss on the cheek under fireworks.
Masachika falls ill and skips school. Alya comes to take care of him — making porridge, staying with him — while also being thrown into Yuki's radio broadcast without preparation. She handles both the candidate speech and his care simultaneously.
The closing ceremony speech — practically a presidential campaign speech. Alya is nervous. Masachika gives her a secret tip that changes everything. She delivers the speech of her life. Afterwards, she wins the bet and asks to be on first-name terms. Summer together begins.
Season 2 has been confirmed, continuing directly from where Season 1 ended — the summer together, election prep, and the deepening of Alya and Masachika's relationship. More Russian whispers incoming.
The Solitary Princess of Seirei Academy introduces herself — and the boy next to her.
Yuki Suou, Masachika's apparent childhood friend, enters the picture. Alya questions the relationship.

Exam bet. Russian birthday custom. Fireworks. Cheek kiss. The night everything shifted.
Masachika sick. Alya caregiving. Yuki's radio trap. Alya holds her own — barely.
The closing ceremony speech. The bet's conclusion. First names. Summer together.
Alya whispers that her braid is also silver — a casual, unguarded comment she'd never say in Japanese. Masachika hears every word.
The most important Russian moment of the entire season. Emotionally overwhelmed by his promise, she says it clearly — "I love you." He heard it. His heart heard it. But he stayed silent.
A quieter, everyday version of her feelings — "I like you." Said as she watches him decide to support her instead of his own sister. The most natural confession she's made.
Alya feels hurt in a way she can only articulate through a Russian cultural value — that in Russia, inviting someone to your birthday means you consider them a friend. She says this quietly and Masachika, understanding, acts immediately.
When she shows up to care for him, she slips into Russian to say things she can't express in Japanese — gratitude, worry, affection. The porridge scene is their most tender moment so far.
After winning the bet, she asks to use first names — a significant step in both Russian and Japanese culture. Her heart is finally expressing itself, even in Japanese, slowly.
Sumire Uesaka is one of Japan's most distinctive voice actresses — and perhaps the most perfectly cast seiyuu in recent anime history. She was scouted at age 8, began her career in commercials, then transitioned to voice acting in 2011, winning Best Rookie Actress at the 10th Seiyu Awards.
What makes her casting as Alya almost poetic: Uesaka majored in Russian Studies at Sophia University, graduating in 2014. She developed her love of Russian culture and Soviet history from high school, and has spoken extensively about her genuine passion for the language.
Sumire Uesaka is a genuine Russophile — she fell in love with Russian culture after hearing the State Anthem of the USSR in high school, enrolled in Russian Studies at Sophia University, and has been fascinated by Soviet history and Russian tanks. When she was cast as Alya, the Russian lines were not just a performance challenge — they were a personal joy. Her Russian pronunciation, while accented, carries authentic warmth that purely phonetic delivery could never achieve.
Beyond Alya, Uesaka is known for iconic roles like Hayase Nagatoro, Sanae Dekomori, Lum (2022), and Jinx/Powder in Arcane. She is also a musician, modeling lolita fashion for Baby, the Stars Shine Bright since 2011, and maintains an official fanclub called Sumiperenpou (すみぺれんぽう — the Sumire Federation).
She says nothing in Japanese. In Russian, everything is already written — waiting for the one person who was always listening.
